“THE LAST JOKE”

The Photography Day

Ciao Amigos,

So recently we’ve celebrated The World Photography Day on 19th August. The world photography day is celebrated every year on the 19th of August to pay tribute to the art, science and history of photography which is also celebrated as world photo day. That’s when I asked myself 19th of August not any other day so I started my research.

So let’s have some insights, so after the “daguerreotype” which is a photographic process developed in 1837 by French men Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce.

Well, wait for it. It wasn’t invented on 19th of August. Two years later in January 1839, the French Academy of sciences endorsed the daguerreotype process officially.

And on August 19, 1839 after seven months they announced this invention as a free gift to the world.

But the daguerreotype wasn’t the first permanent photographic image. In 1826, Niepce captured the earliest known permanent photograph known as “View from the Window at Le Gras” using a process called heliography. And there were some readings that shows August 19th as the day of treachery in the history of photography. Hey let’s just go with the positive one alright.

It was not until on August 19, 2010 the first World Photography Day was celebrated when a photographer from Delhi shared a picture quoting it as the world photography day and nearly 270 other photographers shared their pictures in a global online gallery. And people from over 100 countries visited the online gallery. This is the event that marked the first official World Photography Day. So yes what’s the relation between this story and the title one might ask.

Well, here it goes,

“THE GOAL OF ART WAS THE VITAL EXPRESSION OF SELF.”

– ALFRED STIEGLITZ

Alfred Stieglitz was an American photographer and modern art promoter. He spent his 50 year career in making photography as an accepted art form. He’s famous for his work

“The Last Joke, Bellagio”. The picture represents a scenario where several children and youngsters laughing at a joke of a women. So that’s all about it right. It is an art form that gives us a close memory of our emotions and feelings connected to it and take us on a time travel without any fancy time travel machine.

And life is a collection of little moments and let’s make those moments perfect by adding some cheeeeeeses to it… It is an everyday celebration, so why just on one day?

This is to all the photographers in the world, who captures everything beautifully with your camera even sometimes when our own self fails to see it. Only if every heart could look at this world beautifully the way you see it the world would’ve been a better place. So kudos for everyone who captures those smiles with your lens and spread the love with your art and remembering everyone of us to smile with our hearts. To all the aspiring and budding photographers, as Robert Capa would say “Hey it’s not a bad photograph, it’s not just close enough”.

With Love,

The Arch Girl.
